Apparently you could buy a new RHD Mustang in 1981

Yes, indeed you could. They were conversions I understand.

There was a lot of talk about the current Mustang when it went on sale on this side of the pond a couple of years ago but I only see one every few months.

I don’t think they’ve planned big volumes for it outside of North America. I think in 2015 they were only allocating a few thousand for global regions. It’s a pretty expensive car.

I did get a chance to drive a RHD Mustang convertible here (US); other drivers were losing their minds.

I wonder how many were bought and how many survived in the U.K.s climate.

Probably not many and I cant find one for sale anywhere so doubt many survived.

Probably too thirsty for the UK market.

I shouldn’t think any would still survive.

My dad had a Mitsubishi Sapporo (which is from around the same time), the things are virtually extinct these days and I would of thought many more were sold than the Mustang.

You know what’s bizarre, the turbo four was more powerful than the 3.3L six. Who would pay the extra 550 quid for less power?

Potentially a couple survive after being pampered and garage kept most of their life (like how my daihatsu survived) but most are probably long gone.

Because no replacement for displacement?

47 HP bump though! I guess the early turbos were a bit of a headache though, the turbo motors were better after ‘83. I still would probably have accepted the dodgy turbo and saved the 550.

Probably fear of a relatively complicated new technology factored in. Cars werent as reliable as we take for granted now, then throw a turbo into the mix...

Japan is weird when it comes to foreign cars. Usually foreign car buyers see themselves as a different kind of person and the “fad” is to get the car in left hand drive on top of it. So most foreign market cars you see in Japan will not be right hand drive. Also the mustangs that locals own there are often imported. IDK about Japan but I knew guys who would bring their car to the UK and Germany when they were in the US military to sell.

Ya I was going to bring that up but I only know from experience this happening in Germany. I didn’t know if Japan allowed imports like that.

I was in the Air Force and what people would do before going to germany was buy a Mustang or some “american” car and bring it over then sell over there. They usually could turn decent profit on that.
